Jimbo Matison
Director / Writer / Creative / Musician / Live-action / Animation I started out in the industry way back in 1989 at San Francisco's legendary Colossal Pictures as a production artist. I soon worked my way up to writer and art director. I made my directing debut on the Emmy award winning Liquid TV, on MTV, with the very well accepted Crazy Daisy Ed. Stop Motion animated madness. It was just after this that I achieved my greatest (?) claim to fame. I voiced the ever popular scream that was used on hundreds of incredible Sega commercials all through the 90's. "SEGA!" Yup, that's me. Please, don't ask me to do it. I get all funny. Not wanting to just live off the laurels of my international one word fame, I started directing packaging and interstitials for the likes of Channel V, Locomotion, FOX, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick UK, and CBS. Promaxes were won. In between I made the jump to live action and directed commercials for Coke, Burger King, Starbucks, Rocawear and more. I was summoned by Wildbrains to create an animated show for their launching webtoons site. I decided to make the insane Space Is Dum, which was one of their most popular shows. I wrote and Directed two seasons (26 episodes), it was picked up by SciFi Channel, nominated for an ANNIE and featured in the Tribeca Film Festival. Somewhere in there I also directed music videos for Sony Records(Notorious Japanese band Foul) and Interscope Records (Co-directed Primus' first video and more recently awesome punk band The Briefs). I turned to print and made "So Crazy Japanese Toys!". A photo coffee table book of beautiful Japanese toys. All photos were in 4X5 format, lush with super bright fun plastic characters. Printed by Chronicle Books. For the past 5 years I have been in NYC at IATV where I was VP, Creative Director and Senior Producer of Original Content. IATV is a new TV network that is on basic cable from coast to coast (mostly Time Warner, Cox and Comcast). I named and branded the network and then quickly moved on to creating original shows. At IATV I created several shows I went on to write and direct. The winningest one being the comedy Uncle Morty's Dub Shack (Two seasons, 22 episodes, 3 specials). The press for Uncle Morty's kind of says it all; "It's the Beastie Boys meets MST3K" - The San Francisco Chronicle. "Consistent hilariousness" - Salon.com. "The absurdity is deliberate" - Apple.com. Uncle Morty's won a lot of Telly awards but I'm not sure what I think about that. I put Uncle Morty's on hiatus simply because I was exhausted at the end of two seasons. So I went to the beach. Ahh.... I also needed to start other shows rolling. I co-produced and co-directed 2 seasons of Comedy Zen, a live stand up comedian show featuring the likes of Bobby Lee and Dat Phan. Other shows I developed and produced are The Lounge, Finding My America and the currently running Muffin Mix. A music video show that is definitely different. Muffins bleeding lots and lots of blood? Nice. Besides all that I also write the catchiest jingles and include them in just about all my projects. This has left scars on my assistants. They now have support groups. I have penned jingles and songs that have aired for Coke, Burger King, MTV, Nickelodeon, all my shows on IATV and lots more. Now I am out, freelance, on my own again and loving it! Freedooom! You need something? You want something? Gimme' a call. Oh here's the list of names for you that like them... Goodby Silverstein, McCann Erickson, Foote, Cone + Belding, Ogilvy, CBS, FOX, MTV, Nickelodeon, SciFi Channel, Coke, Starbucks, Burgerking, Colossal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Interscope, Sony, NTT, PIXAR, Wildbrains, Mondo Media, Protozoa, RBF, Zoobs, Chronicle Books and more.
